This includes Android TVs, smart home appliances, security cameras, and a wide array of other internet-connected hardware that possesses basic computing power alongside notoriously weak security architectures.

The researchers noted that small AI models may be just months away from gaining the specific capabilities required to self-replicate on commercial internet-of-things (IoT) devices. Such a development would present a uniquely challenging threat to global cybersecurity, primarily because an infection of this nature would feature no centralized point of failure or shutdown mechanism, leaving cybersecurity professionals scrambling for systemic countermeasures.

This newly articulated warning arrives on the heels of renewed and deepening concerns over the rapid acceleration of mathematical and computational capabilities in advanced AI models. Industry experts are increasingly worried that these enhanced systems may eventually break the complex cryptographic signatures that secure cryptocurrency wallets globally, posing a direct threat to a significant portion of the entire Bitcoin supply.

Estimates indicate that almost a third of the global Bitcoin supply, amounting to approximately 6.26 million BTC, currently sits in blockchain addresses that are vulnerable to being compromised by advanced AI models or future quantum computers. However, blockchain analytics data provides some immediate nuance to the scale of the exposure. Rafael Schultze-Kraft, co-founder of blockchain intelligence firm Glassnode, noted in a post on social media platform X that about 4.33 million of those exposed coins are vulnerable specifically because of address reuse. This means that simply migrating those funds and moving that Bitcoin to fresh, unused wallets would effectively eliminate their exposure to the threat.

Just a day prior to Schultze-Kraft’s analysis, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake issued a similar caution. Drake warned that the rapid and unforeseen advancements in artificial intelligence could break the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm, commonly known as ECDSA, which secures the vast majority of cryptocurrency wallets. He argued that this cryptographic failure could happen sooner than previously expected and strongly urged digital asset users to proactively migrate their funds to fresh wallets as a precautionary measure.

Not all industry figures share the same level of alarm, however. Haseeb Qureshi, managing partner at cryptocurrency investment firm Dragonfly, pushed back against the growing wave of concern, labeling the warnings as "cryptographic doomerism." Qureshi argued that simply migrating tokens to fresh addresses does not represent a realistic or comprehensive structural solution against a systemic cryptographic threat of that magnitude.

The debate highlights a broader tension within the technology and cryptocurrency sectors as they grapple with the unforeseen vectors and operational risks introduced by the relentless evolution of artificial intelligence. While cybersecurity researchers focus on the tangible, near-term threats of autonomous software agents and self-replicating AI worms targeting vulnerable IoT networks, financial technologists continue to debate the resilience of core cryptographic infrastructure in the face of exponential machine intelligence growth. As research into both artificial intelligence and blockchain security presses forward, the intersection of these two transformative technologies remains one of the most closely watched frontiers in modern digital engineering.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has issued a stark warning regarding the future of autonomous technology,…

[3
302,238,6,4,435,1152,1456,7,5,1455,1454,348,704,1447
post-1518","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-crypto-security","tag-across","tag-anthropic","tag-blockchain","tag-crypto","tag-devices","tag-human","tag-intervention","tag-safety","tag-security","tag-smart","tag-spread","tag-warns","tag-without","tag-worms
["GET
