The Amsterdam-based financial technology initiative announced the crucial regulatory approval on Wednesday, moving the consortium significantly closer to its goal of issuing a compliant, euro-denominated stablecoin for the European and global digital asset markets.

The newly granted EMI license brings Qivalis directly under the ongoing supervision of the Dutch central bank. More importantly, the authorization makes the consortium officially eligible to issue euro-denominated electronic money tokens. This regulatory clearance overcomes what has historically been one of the highest barriers to entry for digital asset projects operating within the tightly regulated European Union financial ecosystem.

With the regulatory framework now established through the central bank’s approval, Qivalis has outlined plans to begin issuing its euro-denominated stablecoin within the coming months. However, the exact rollout remains subject to fulfilling additional requirements stipulated by the comprehensive Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, known widely as MiCA, as well as the official publication of the project’s regulatory white paper.

The introduction of a heavily backed, bank-supported euro stablecoin comes at a time when the broader digital asset market is overwhelmingly dominated by United States dollar-pegged stablecoins. Market data highlights a stark imbalance in the sector, where US dollar alternatives maintain a commanding grip on global liquidity and on-chain settlement volumes. According to figures compiled by DefiLlama, the total capitalization of the global stablecoin market stands at approximately $303 billion. Within that total, Tether’s USDT alone boasts a market capitalization of roughly $183 billion, accounting for more than 60 percent of the entire market. Other major US dollar-pegged assets capture the vast majority of the remaining share, leaving euro-denominated digital currencies with a minute fraction of overall trading and settlement volume.

Qivalis aims to challenge this dominance by offering a trusted alternative rooted directly in European financial law and institutional backing. Jan-Oliver Sell, the Chief Executive Officer of Qivalis, emphasized the strategic importance of establishing indigenous on-chain financial infrastructure for the continent. Expressing the consortium’s core vision, Sell noted that Europe should have a euro-denominated on-chain settlement asset issued under European law and subject to stringent European regulatory standards, rather than relying predominantly on foreign currency alternatives for digital transactions and decentralized finance applications.

The path toward launching the stablecoin has been bolstered by significant institutional participation from traditional banking heavyweights across the continent. Earlier this year in May, Qivalis significantly expanded its network by adding 25 new banks spread across 15 different European countries. This strategic expansion brought the total number of banking institutions backing the consortium to 37. This growing coalition of traditional financial institutions provides Qivalis with deep industry roots, operational credibility, and a broad geographic footprint across the European banking sector, distinguishing it from many standalone cryptocurrency startups that lack traditional institutional ties.

The authorization by De Nederlandsche Bank and the backing of dozens of commercial banks position Qivalis to play a transformative role in the evolution of European digital finance. As regulatory clarity under MiCA continues to take full effect across the European Union, institutional initiatives like Qivalis are expected to redefine how digital assets are integrated into traditional banking services, cross-border payments, and emerging on-chain financial markets.

European banking consortium Qivalis has achieved a major regulatory milestone after receiving Electronic Money Institution…

[533
1538,39,101,1364,1226,535,1536,1540,147,1539,1212,1020,283,1537,534,536,991,102
post-1608","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-regulatory-compliance","tag-advance","tag-approval","tag-bank","tag-banking","tag-central","tag-compliance","tag-consortium","tag-denominated","tag-dutch","tag-euro","tag-european","tag-launch","tag-legal","tag-qivalis","tag-regulation","tag-sec","tag-secures","tag-stablecoin
["GET
