This geographic distribution comes to light as the company navigates a complex web of global regulatory frameworks, banking infrastructure limitations, and international card-issuing requirements that continue to restrict physical card availability in various markets around the world.

Speaking on the intricate dynamics of global crypto spending, Andrey Ilinskiy, head of Tangem Pay, highlighted the challenges of bridging the gap between decentralized digital assets and traditional financial rails. "It is not simply a question of where people want crypto cards," Ilinskiy told Cointelegraph, adding that "it is where demand, regulation, banking infrastructure and card-issuing requirements happen to line up — and today, those maps do not always overlap."

The revelation accompanies a major milestone for the Swiss-based firm. On Wednesday, Tangem officially announced its very first physical Visa card, designed to facilitate seamless in-store purchases, online transactions, and ATM withdrawals. To mark the initial rollout, the company has limited the release to an exclusive batch of 5,000 cards, which will be showcased to the global blockchain community at the upcoming Token2049 conference in Singapore.

The newly introduced payment solution bridges the traditional retail landscape with self-custody digital assets. According to the company, users are given the ability to fund the Visa card directly from their self-custodial wallets. Furthermore, in the event that a card is suspended, locked, or permanently closed, users retain full control over their funds, with the capability to easily move their digital assets back into their self-custodial storage.

This architecture addresses a fundamental tension in modern financial technology between absolute user autonomy and compliance with legacy payment networks. "Self-custody removes one major boundary: there is no custodian standing between the user and their assets," Tangem explained in a statement regarding the product architecture. "But when those assets enter a regulated payment network, another set of boundaries appears."

Tangem Delivers the Cards in Nearly 200 Countries, Excluding Only 20

Despite the borderless nature of cryptocurrencies, deploying a physical payment card tied to a traditional payments network requires adherence to strict jurisdictional boundaries. Tangem confirmed that it is currently unable to deliver physical Tangem Pay cards to roughly 20 countries worldwide. The list of excluded regions includes major economies and politically sensitive areas such as China, Russia, North Korea, and Palestine.

The company emphasized that these delivery and availability restrictions do not necessarily mirror the domestic regulatory rules governing cryptocurrency ownership or trading itself. Instead, a myriad of operational and compliance factors dictate where a crypto-linked payment card can be legally and practically issued. Strict Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations, international sanctions, local banking sector rules, and card-issuing compliance standards all play decisive roles in determining geographic availability.

"The same conditions that can create demand for crypto as an alternative financial rail can make regulated card issuance more difficult," Tangem noted, pointing to the paradox faced by users in emerging economies and financially restricted regions who stand to benefit the most from alternative payment systems.

In addition to launching the physical card and navigating these global distribution channels, Tangem is rolling out an incentive program to encourage adoption. The company is introducing a cashback feature paid out in Circle’s USDC stablecoin. Under the structure of the rewards program, eligible purchases will yield a 1% cashback rate for Basic users, while Plus users will enjoy an enhanced 2% cashback rate on qualifying transactions.

The introduction of the Tangem Pay Visa card and its USDC cashback mechanics arrive amid growing institutional and retail interest in stablecoin integration, a trend underscored by recent industry findings showing that broader stablecoin adoption could see significant surges when paired with bank-like protections. As Tangem prepares to put its initial batch of 5,000 cards into the hands of users and present the technology at Token2049 in Singapore, the firm continues to chart the delicate intersection between decentralized finance and global regulatory compliance.

Swiss crypto hardware wallet provider Tangem has revealed that more than 40% of its Tangem…

[496
663,1133,1027,503,728,680,15,433,1132,1025,5,1021,1179,1026,263
post-1716","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-wallet-security","tag-adoption","tag-america","tag-card","tag-cold-storage","tag-drive","tag-early","tag-first","tag-hardware","tag-latin","tag-physical","tag-security","tag-tangem","tag-unveils","tag-visa","tag-wallets
["GET
