The figures highlight a growing appetite for crypto-backed spending solutions in these regions, even as physical card availability remains restricted in various markets around the globe.

The disclosure comes on the heels of Tangem’s official announcement regarding its first physical Visa card, designed to facilitate seamless in-store and online purchases, as well as ATM withdrawals. The initial rollout of the physical payment card is set to be strictly limited to an initial batch of 5,000 cards. This milestone represents a significant step forward for the company as it bridges the gap between decentralized digital asset storage and traditional, regulated fiat payment rails.

Addressing the complexities of global distribution, Andrey Ilinskiy, head of Tangem Pay, pointed out that bringing a crypto-linked payment card to market involves navigating a complex web of logistical and regulatory hurdles. According to Ilinskiy, the challenge goes far beyond simply identifying where users want access to crypto cards.

It is a matter of where demand, regulation, banking infrastructure, and card-issuing requirements happen to align, Ilinskiy explained, noting that in the current global financial landscape, those maps do not always overlap smoothly. The friction between borderless cryptocurrency technology and deeply localized financial regulations continues to shape how digital assets are integrated into everyday commerce.

A core feature of the Tangem Pay system is its integration with self-custodial wallets. The company emphasized that users retain full control over their funds, allowing them to fund the Visa card directly from their self-custodial wallet. Furthermore, if a card happens to be suspended or closed for any reason, users retain the ability to easily move their funds back into the safety of their wallet, ensuring they never lose access to their underlying digital assets.

This architecture speaks to the delicate balance Tangem aims to strike between absolute user autonomy and compliance with traditional financial systems. Self-custody removes a major boundary by eliminating any third-party custodian standing between the user and their assets, the company explained. However, the moment those assets cross the threshold into a regulated payment network, an entirely new set of boundaries inevitably appears.

Tangem Delivers the Cards in Nearly 200 Countries, Excluding Only 20

Despite the inherent regulatory challenges, Tangem has established a vast global distribution network for the physical Tangem Pay cards. The company confirmed that it is capable of delivering the cards to nearly 200 countries worldwide. Nevertheless, logistical, political, and compliance realities mean that approximately 20 countries remain excluded from the current distribution footprint.

Among the regions where physical Tangem Pay cards cannot currently be delivered are China, Russia, North Korea, and Palestine. Tangem noted that these delivery restrictions do not necessarily mirror the direct regulatory rules governing cryptocurrency itself within those jurisdictions. Instead, a complex combination of Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, international sanctions, local banking rules, and rigorous card-issuing compliance dictates precisely where a crypto-linked payment card can legally and practically be made available.

The paradox of the global crypto market is that the very conditions that foster high demand for alternative financial rails can simultaneously create severe obstacles for regulated card issuance. The company observed that the economic environments pushing populations toward digital assets as an alternative financial system are frequently the same ones where traditional financial institutions and compliance frameworks struggle to operate.

As part of its strategy to incentivize usage and reward early adopters, Tangem is also introducing a cashback program tied to Circle’s USD Coin (USDC) stablecoin. Under the program, eligible purchases will yield cashback rates of 1% for Basic users and 2% for Plus users, providing a stablecoin-denominated incentive that bypasses the volatility typically associated with reward tokens tied to native crypto assets.

Looking ahead, Tangem plans to officially showcase the first physical Tangem Pay cards at the upcoming Token2049 conference in Singapore, offering industry participants and prospective users a firsthand look at the physical product. As the intersection between traditional banking networks and self-custodial crypto solutions continues to evolve, the initial 5,000-card release will serve as a crucial testbed for how decentralized wealth can successfully navigate the rigid boundaries of global fiat infrastructure.

Swiss cryptocurrency hardware wallet provider Tangem has revealed a distinct geographic distribution for its upcoming…

[496
937,1133,1027,503,1022,1644,728,1643,433,1132,1020,838,5,1021,1026,263
post-1752","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-wallet-security","tag-ahead","tag-america","tag-card","tag-cold-storage","tag-demand","tag-divide","tag-drive","tag-geographic","tag-hardware","tag-latin","tag-launch","tag-reveals","tag-security","tag-tangem","tag-visa","tag-wallets
["GET
