Hyundai Motor Completes Cross-Border Treasury Pilot Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a landmark cross-border treasury transfer pilot utilizing Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking another major step forward for enterprise blockchain adoption. The pilot involved the company’s United States and Mexican corporate units and showcased how distributed ledger technology can drastically accelerate international financial settlements while seamlessly fitting into established corporate compliance and operational frameworks.

According to details shared by Tether, Hyundai Motor America converted corporate funds into USDT before transferring the stablecoin across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, where it was subsequently converted back into US dollars. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process was completed in approximately seven minutes. By comparison, traditional cross-border banking wires routinely take anywhere from three to four hours—and sometimes significantly longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks.

The successful $20,000 transaction was executed on the Avalanche blockchain, leveraging high throughput and rapid finality to ensure a smooth transfer. Furthermore, Tether noted that the pilot relied on Axiym’s specialized settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role in the initiative by designing the underlying remittance structure and meticulously overseeing the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept.

The primary objective of the pilot was not merely to test speed, but to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be integrated directly into existing corporate treasury operations without forcing companies to alter their internal governance, strict compliance protocols, or standard accounting practices. Following the success of this initial test phase, the participating companies plan to expand their testing parameters to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future implementation.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

The successful Hyundai pilot highlights a rapidly growing trend across the global financial landscape, where corporate treasury has firmly emerged as a primary battleground and use case for stablecoin issuers. Financial technology firms and infrastructure providers are increasingly rolling out sophisticated products explicitly designed to support cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and streamline intercompany settlements for multinational corporations.

This enterprise shift is gaining significant momentum across the broader software and payments ecosystem. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration empowers corporate treasury teams to manage their stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions. Furthermore, it allows businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, unlocking crucial access to liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their existing treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from the broader digital asset economy underscores this accelerating adoption curve. A comprehensive report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This remarkable growth was largely driven by sustained corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, sophisticated treasury management tools, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment providers.

Recent business surveys further validate the expanding footprint of stablecoins in commercial operations. A June Paybis report found that roughly 22.5% of surveyed businesses are already utilizing stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to integrate them within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This expanding enterprise footprint coincides with robust overall growth within the digital asset market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing a substantial increase of roughly 21.5% from the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, according to data from DefiLlama. Amid this ongoing market expansion, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, cementing its utility for institutional pilots and everyday cross-border commerce alike.
