According to details released by Tether, the cross-border transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the blockchain network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital assets back into traditional US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification procedure took roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to conventional cross-border banking rails, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and often significantly longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and currency clearing schedules.

The pilot infrastructure relied on Axiym’s settlement technology, while Hyundai Card played a crucial role by designing the overarching remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept within a heavily scrutinized multinational corporate framework.

The initiative was deliberately structured as an evaluation phase to test whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing enterprise treasury operations without necessitating disruptive modifications to established corporate governance, compliance protocols, or internal accounting processes. Following the success of this initial trial, the companies are planning a subsequent phase that will expand testing to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and automation potential.

Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly evolved into one of the most critical focus areas for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Financial technology firms and blockchain networks are increasingly rolling out enterprise-grade products specifically designed to streamline cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and facilitate frictionless intercompany settlements.

This trend is underscored by broader industry developments. Earlier in the year, treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration empowers corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions, execute eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access vital liquidity outside of standard banking hours—all while utilizing their pre-existing enterprise treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from the broader financial sector highlights the accelerating velocity of this shift. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic growth was primarily propelled by escalating corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, advanced treasury management tools, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of established financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Comprehensive business surveys further reinforce the narrative of expanding enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report indicated that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively intend to incorporate them within the upcoming 12 months. Drawing upon research from management consulting firm McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This enterprise-driven push coincides with robust macro growth across the broader digital asset economy. The total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% from the $257.1 billion recorded a year prior, according to data from DefiLlama. Amid this ongoing expansion, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market valuation, serving as the foundational asset for major corporate trials and cross-border commercial settlements worldwide.
