According to details shared by Tether, the transaction showcased a streamlined lifecycle: Hyundai Motor America initially converted the designated funds into USDT, transferred the digital asset across borders to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converted the stablecoin back into traditional US dollars. The entire operational sequence—including transfer and verification—took approximately seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional legacy cross-border bank transfers, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours, and sometimes significantly longer depending on correspondent banking networks, time zones, and intermediary clearing houses.
The successful pilot relied on a collaborative technological and operational framework. Tether noted that the test utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to ensure smooth asset movement. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role by designing the overarching remittance structure and rigorously overseeing the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational frameworks required to support this proof of concept.
The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations. Crucially, the test aimed to determine if this integration could occur without forcing companies to alter their established governance, compliance, or accounting processes. Building on the success of this initial phase, the companies plan to expand their testing parameters to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future deployment.
Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

Corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a vital focal point for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers alike. Across the global financial landscape, firms are actively rolling out specialized products specifically designed to support friction-free cross-border payments, optimized liquidity management, and efficient intercompany settlements.
The momentum in this sector has been building through notable industry partnerships and technological integrations. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba joined forces with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to monitor and manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a unified interface. Furthermore, it enables businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, unlocking access to vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their existing enterprise workflows and internal approval controls.
Empirical data from major industry players further underscores this accelerating trend. A comprehensive business report published by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was primarily fueled by soaring enterprise demand for real-time settlement capabilities, sophisticated treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded during this period consisted of institutional financial entities, including traditional banks and licensed payment service providers.
Broader business surveys and market research also point toward widespread and growing enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report highlighted that 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively plan to implement them within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume throughout 2025.
This aggressive corporate push into digital asset settlements coincides with a period of robust overall expansion for the broader stablecoin market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year prior, according to data compiled by DefiLlama. Amid this ongoing market expansion, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as the foundational asset for major industrial experiments like the one recently conducted by Hyundai Motor’s regional units.
