Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether USDT on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has taken a significant step toward modernizing its corporate financial infrastructure by successfully completing a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The operation, which involved the company’s United States and Mexican corporate units, settled a $20,000 payment in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain, signaling a growing institutional appetite for blockchain-based liquidity solutions.

According to details provided by Tether, the proof-of-concept transaction required Hyundai Motor America to convert corporate funds into USDT, execute the cross-border transfer to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently convert the stablecoins back into fiat US dollars at the destination. The entire end-to-end transfer and cryptographic verification process took roughly seven minutes. This stands in sharp contrast to traditional cross-border banking rails, which typically require three to four hours—and frequently longer—to clear international wire transfers, subject to intermediary bank schedules and operating hours.

The operational success of the pilot relied on specialized technological and regulatory infrastructure. Tether noted that the trial utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to handle the digital asset transfer layer. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the overarching remittance structure and closely oversaw the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept within a multinational corporate framework.

The primary objective of the pilot was to rigorously evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms can be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without disrupting established governance, compliance, or accounting controls. Following the successful completion of this initial phase, the participating entities plan to expand their testing parameters to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements. This broader rollout will help the companies further evaluate stablecoin utility across complex enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

The initiative by Hyundai Motor highlights a broader trend across global industries, where corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a critical focal point for stablecoin adoption. Financial technology firms and infrastructure providers have increasingly rolled out enterprise-grade products specifically engineered to support frictionless cross-border payments, efficient liquidity management, and rapid intercompany settlements.

This institutional momentum has been underscored by several major developments across the fintech and banking sectors. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate platform. This collaboration was designed to empower treasury teams to manage digital asset balances alongside traditional cash positions, execute eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access essential liquidity outside of traditional banking hours. Crucially, the integration allows corporations to leverage stablecoins while maintaining their existing treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Market data further illustrates the accelerating demand for digital asset rails in corporate finance. A comprehensive report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was heavily driven by enterprise demand for real-time settlement, modernized treasury management, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Furthermore, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of institutional financial entities, including traditional banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys similarly point to an upward trajectory in enterprise adoption. A June report published by Paybis indicated that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively plan to implement them within the next 12 months. Citing detailed research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This corporate push into digital assets coincides with a period of robust expansion for the overall stablecoin market. According to tracking data from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% from the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Within this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market capitalization, serving as the foundational asset for high-value enterprise pilots such as the one executed by Hyundai Motor.
