According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin seamlessly to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into fiat US dollars at the destination. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional cross-border banking rails, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and frequently longer—to clear due to intermediary correspondent banks, time zone differences, and legacy processing limitations.

The high-profile pilot leveraged Axiym’s specialized settlement infrastructure to execute the blockchain-based transfer. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role by designing the overarching remittance structure and directly overseeing the stringent regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept.

The primary objective of the initiative was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be integrated directly into existing corporate treasury operations without necessitating disruptive alterations to internal governance frameworks, compliance protocols, or standard accounting practices. Following the success of this initial test, the corporate partners plan to expand their testing parameters to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future deployment.

Corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a key focal point for stablecoin issuers and fintech infrastructure providers alike, with firms rolling out dedicated enterprise products explicitly designed to streamline cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and accelerate intercompany settlements.

The broader industry trend toward stablecoin adoption in enterprise finance has accelerated significantly over recent years. In April, major enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate treasury platform. This strategic collaboration empowers corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional fiat cash positions, settle eligible cross-border and intercompany transactions in near-real time, and access vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their existing enterprise workflows and internal approval controls.

Complementing this software integration, empirical market data underscores surging corporate demand. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic growth was driven primarily by mounting enterprise demand for real-time settlement capabilities, efficient treasury management, and robust cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of all new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of institutional financial entities, including traditional banks and licensed payment service providers.

Comprehensive business surveys further reinforce the narrative of expanding enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report highlighted that 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively plan to implement them within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This enterprise-driven expansion is occurring alongside steady macro-level growth in the digital asset sector. The total global stablecoin market capitalization has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing a robust 21.5% increase from $257.1 billion recorded just one year prior, according to data from DefiLlama. Amid this ongoing market expansion, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin globally by total market value, serving as the foundational asset for major corporate trials such as Hyundai’s recent cross-border settlement.
