Hyundai Motor Accelerates Enterprise Treasury with Successful USDT Cross-Border Settlement Pilot on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking a notable step forward in the integration of blockchain technology into traditional corporate financial operations.

The initiative, carried out jointly by the company’s United States and Mexican units, involved settling a $20,000 transaction in roughly seven minutes utilizing the Avalanche blockchain network. According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation demonstrated how multinational corporations might drastically reduce settlement times compared to legacy banking channels.

During the test, Hyundai Motor America converted the designated funds into USDT, transferred the stablecoin asset across the Avalanche network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converted the tokens back into local fiat US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process was completed in about seven minutes. In contrast, traditional cross-border bank transfers typically require three to four hours or significantly longer depending on correspondent banking networks, time zones, and intermediary clearance hurdles.

The architecture behind the proof of concept relied on specialized financial infrastructure. Tether noted that the pilot utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure, while Hyundai Card designed the broader remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the intricate regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the initiative safely within corporate governance frameworks.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without necessitating disruptive alterations to internal governance, compliance protocols, or accounting standards. Building on the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to expand their testing phase to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future implementation.

Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

The high-profile test by Hyundai Motor underscores a broader trend across global finance, where corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a key focal point for stablecoin issuers and enterprise software providers alike. Financial technology firms are increasingly rolling out sophisticated products explicitly designed to support cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and streamline intercompany settlements for multinational corporations.

This enterprise push has gained considerable momentum through strategic partnerships between major technology platforms and digital asset infrastructure providers. In April, prominent treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a single interface. By doing so, treasury departments can settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while simultaneously gaining access to liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while maintaining their existing enterprise workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from major digital asset service providers further highlights the accelerating adoption of digital currencies for commercial purposes. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was propelled primarily by rising enterprise demand for real-time settlement, comprehensive treasury management solutions, and efficient cross-border liquidity channels. Notably, the report highlighted that more than 60% of new business clients onboarded during the period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys reinforce the narrative of expanding enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to integrate them into their financial operations within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from management consulting firm McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This expanding enterprise utilization coincides with robust overall growth across the digital asset market. According to data from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing a roughly 21.5% increase from $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Within this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as the foundational liquidity layer for numerous institutional experiments and commercial transactions worldwide.
