SkyAI Abandons Solana Treasury Strategy with $201.3 Million Share and Warrant Repurchase Offer

SkyAI, formerly known as Sharps Technology, has officially exited its aggressive cryptocurrency accumulation strategy by liquidating its entire Solana (SOL) treasury and launching a massive tender offer to repurchase up to $201.3 million of its outstanding shares and warrants.

According to a regulatory filing submitted to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday, the company held approximately $223.8 million in cash as of Oct. 16, following the complete liquidation of its SOL holdings. The newly announced tender offer provides an avenue for shareholders and warrant holders to sell their securities directly back to SkyAI at a fixed price. The program covers up to 95% of each class of the company’s outstanding shares and warrants, and it will be funded entirely by the robust cash reserves currently on hand.

Company executives noted that the parameters of the tender offer have been decoupled from the real-time price fluctuations of Solana. This marks a notable adjustment from the initial terms SkyAI had planned to include when it first announced the prospective buyback program on Oct. 11. Despite abandoning its corporate balance-sheet exposure to the token, SkyAI intends to press forward with its operational roadmap, which centers on developing an advanced financial platform that combines stablecoin infrastructure built on Solana with artificial intelligence technology.

Financial markets responded favorably to the strategic pivot. SkyAI shares closed the trading day on Monday at $2.79, registering a daily gain of 5.3%, according to data compiled by Yahoo Finance. The stock has demonstrated substantial volatility and momentum over broader timeframes, having climbed approximately 65% over the past month. Nevertheless, the equity remains down roughly 41% on a trailing twelve-month basis as it navigates the aftermath of its high-stakes digital asset experiment.

SkyAI Reverses Solana Treasury Strategy After One Year

The dramatic liquidation brings a definitive end to SkyAI’s high-profile foray into digital asset treasuries, a strategy it originally embraced in August 2025. At that time, the company executed a significant capital-raising campaign, securing more than $400 million through a private placement designed to fund its digital asset acquisitions. The following month, the company aggressively acquired more than 2 million SOL, establishing a corporate treasury position valued in excess of $400 million at the market prices of the period.

However, the macroeconomic and crypto market environment shifted rapidly against corporate crypto holding strategies. By the close of 2025, SkyAI’s financial disclosures revealed that it held approximately 2.08 million SOL, built upon a heavy cost basis of $403.1 million, which averaged out to roughly $194 per token. As market sentiment cooled and digital asset valuations compressed, the market value of those holdings plummeted to $250.1 million. This translation left the company staring at approximately $153 million in steep, unrealized losses by the end of the fiscal year.

SkyAI was far from alone in feeling the pain of digital asset depreciation. The company’s struggles reflected a much broader wave of financial pressure impacting publicly traded firms that had pivoted their balance sheets toward accumulating SOL as a primary treasury reserve asset. By February 2026, publicly traded Solana treasury companies collectively faced more than $1.5 billion in combined unrealized losses. The sharp downdraft in token prices severely weighed on their underlying asset portfolios and cascaded into severe equity repricing across the board.

The wider cryptocurrency market has endured considerable turbulence throughout the period. Solana’s native token dropped to a cycle low of around $62 in June, testing the conviction of institutional holders and corporate balance sheets alike. The asset has since mounted a notable recovery, trading near $104 as of Monday, according to market data provided by CoinGecko. For SkyAI, however, the rebound arrived too late to salvage its treasury accumulation model, ultimately prompting management to lock in cash reserves, clear out its digital asset exposure, and pivot back toward core technological development and direct shareholder return mechanisms.
