Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Stablecoin Treasury Transfer in Landmark Pilot

Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican operations have successfully executed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer utilizing Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The test transaction, valued at $20,000, was settled on the Avalanche blockchain in approximately seven minutes, marking a significant milestone for corporate blockchain adoption in traditional finance and global treasury management operations.

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation involved a multi-step conversion process designed to mirror real-world corporate workflows. Hyundai Motor America initially converted traditional corporate funds into USDT, transferred the stablecoin across the Avalanche network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converted the digital asset back into traditional US dollars upon arrival. The entire transfer, execution, and verification process took roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional cross-border banking rails, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours—or sometimes multiple business days—depending on correspondent banking networks, time zones, and intermediary financial institutions.

The successful pilot relied on specialized technological and operational infrastructure. Tether disclosed that the test utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role by designing the overarching remittance structure and overseeing the stringent regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept.

The primary objective of the pilot was to rigorously evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without necessitating disruptive modifications to established corporate governance, compliance protocols, or accounting standards. Following the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to advance to a subsequent phase. This next stage will expand testing to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the firms continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and potential long-term scalability.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury has rapidly evolved into one of the most vital and fiercely contested use cases for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Across the global financial landscape, firms are actively developing and deploying specialized products engineered to streamline international payments, optimize corporate liquidity management, and facilitate friction-free intercompany settlements.

The broader enterprise push into digital assets is underscored by a series of high-profile integrations and partnerships within the software and financial sectors. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba announced a strategic partnership with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its core enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions. By bridging legacy systems with digital assets, the integration allows corporate treasurers to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time. Furthermore, it grants treasury operations vital access to liquidity outside of standard traditional banking hours, all while operating within existing enterprise workflows and pre-established corporate approval controls.

Empirical data from the financial sector further illustrates this accelerating momentum. A comprehensive Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its institutional platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic expansion was primarily propelled by sustained corporate demand for real-time settlement solutions, efficient treasury management tools, and rapid cross-border liquidity mechanisms. Notably, over 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of institutional financial entities, including traditional banks and licensed payment service providers.

Independent business surveys echo these findings, pointing toward widening enterprise adoption across diverse industrial sectors. A June Paybis report highlighted that 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively plan to integrate them into their operations within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research from management consultancy McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in aggregate global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This sustained institutional and corporate adoption coincides with a period of notable expansion for the broader digital asset market. According to tracking data from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the global stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion. This figure represents an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded exactly one year prior, with Tether’s USDT maintaining its position as the largest stablecoin globally by total market value.
