Zcash Extends Triple-Digit Yearly Gains as Developers Target November 5 for NU7 Mainnet Activation

Zcash (ZEC) has extended its impressive triple-digit year-to-date gains, surging roughly 12% over a 24-hour period as core developers officially agreed on a mainnet activation block for the network’s highly anticipated NU7 upgrade, which is now slated for early November.

Trading at approximately $1,270 on Wednesday, according to data from CoinGecko, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency continued a robust upward trajectory that has seen its valuation climb by more than 148% since the beginning of the year. This latest market momentum closely follows a crucial development proposal submitted on GitHub on Tuesday by Zcash developer Sean Bowe. The proposal sets the target mainnet activation at block 3,543,405, an event that the network projects will occur on or around November 5.

The consensus regarding the activation block was reached following discussions among core network contributors. "Height agreed at ZIP editor meeting," Bowe wrote in the GitHub pull request, noting that while the milestone has been agreed upon, the engineering team still needs to finalize remaining upgrade specifications before formally merging the proposal into the core repository. The proposed changes have already received formal approval from two key developers, signaling broad alignment within the technical leadership regarding the readiness of the codebase.

Further confirming the timeline, the Zakura NU7 tracking dashboard also lists the upcoming upgrade as pending on the mainnet at block 3,543,405, maintaining the targeted early November rollout.

The NU7 network upgrade is designed to introduce significant structural improvements to the Zcash protocol, most notably by slashing the network’s target block time by two-thirds. Under the new parameters, block times will drop from the current 75 seconds down to just 25 seconds. This reduction is expected to vastly improve the user experience by allowing transactions to receive network confirmations and finality much more quickly. The accelerated block schedule has been undergoing rigorous testing on the network’s testnet environment since early October, paving the way for its eventual transition to the mainnet.

Zcash relies on advanced, trustless zero-knowledge proofs to provide optional transaction privacy, allowing users to shield transaction amounts and addresses while maintaining cryptographic verification of the ledger’s integrity. As the network prepares for its biggest architectural shift in recent history, the broader crypto market has closely monitored the technical progress of the upgrade alongside the asset’s surging price performance.

Despite the positive market response and the agreed-upon block height, substantial technical work remains on the horizon before the upgrade goes live. According to the Zcash Foundation’s NU7 readiness tracker, six out of the 12 primary checklist tasks have been successfully completed so far. The remaining engineering work largely involves addressing lingering Zebra node synchronization issues and carrying out necessary mainnet preparations. At this stage, developers have not yet officially confirmed whether these outstanding synchronization tasks could potentially impact the planned November 5 activation date, leaving the timeline contingent on the successful resolution of these remaining technical hurdles.
