Zcash Extends Triple-Digit Rally as Developers Lock In November 5 Target for NU7 Mainnet Upgrade

Zcash (ZEC) extended its impressive triple-digit year-to-date gains on Wednesday, surging roughly 12% over a 24-hour window following a crucial consensus among core developers regarding the mainnet activation height for the network’s highly anticipated NU7 upgrade.

Trading around $1,270 according to CoinGecko data, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency continued a robust bullish momentum that has seen its valuation skyrocket by more than 148% since the beginning of the year. The latest leg up was catalyzed by a GitHub proposal submitted on Tuesday by Zcash developer Sean Bowe, which formally set the proposed NU7 mainnet activation at block 3,543,405. Network participants and developers anticipate that this specific block height will be reached on or around November 5.

The progression toward the NU7 upgrade marks a significant milestone for the blockchain network, which relies on advanced trustless zero-knowledge proofs to secure user privacy. The development team has been working methodically through testing phases since early October, evaluating how structural changes to the protocol will impact overall network performance, security, and consensus reliability.

"Height agreed at ZIP editor meeting," Sean Bowe wrote in the GitHub proposal, noting that the development team still needs to finalize specific upgrade parameters and documentation before formally merging the proposal into the main codebase. Following discussions, two prominent developers approved the proposed changes, signaling broad alignment within the core contributor community.

Independent tracking mechanisms confirm the timeline. The Zakura NU7 dashboard currently lists the upcoming upgrade as pending on the mainnet at block 3,543,405, maintaining the targeted arrival date of approximately November 5. This transparent coordination has provided investors and node operators with a clear framework as the network approaches one of its most consequential technical transitions in recent years.

At the core of the NU7 upgrade is a fundamental optimization designed to drastically improve user experience and network efficiency: reducing Zcash’s target block time by two-thirds. Currently operating with a 75-second block time, the network is slated to shift to a blistering 25-second target upon the successful activation of NU7. This substantial reduction means that transactions will receive confirmations significantly faster, enhancing the utility of Zcash for everyday settlement and improving throughput without sacrificing the cryptographic privacy guarantees that define the protocol.

While market participants have responded enthusiastically to the schedule announcement, technical preparations behind the scenes remain an active work in progress. According to the Zcash Foundation’s official NU7 readiness tracker hosted on GitHub, six out of 12 critical tasks have been successfully completed as the ecosystem races toward the November deadline.

The remaining work primarily involves ironing out Zebra node synchronization issues and completing essential mainnet deployment preparations. As of Wednesday, core developers have not yet issued a definitive statement regarding whether these outstanding technical tasks could potentially influence or delay the planned activation date, leaving node operators and community members closely monitoring repository updates. The recent activation of NU7 on the testnet has provided a vital sandbox environment for testing these synchronization fixes ahead of the mainnet rollout.
