Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has taken a significant step toward modernizing its international financial operations, successfully completing a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was executed between the company’s United States and Mexican corporate units, settling in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain.

According to details provided by Tether, the proof-of-concept transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the digital network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the assets back into local currency or US dollars at the destination. The entire operational cycle—encompassing the transfer and subsequent verification steps—took roughly seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional legacy cross-border banking rails, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours, and sometimes several business days, depending on intermediary banking relationships and clearing hours.

The successful pilot leveraged Axiym’s advanced settlement infrastructure to facilitate the blockchain-based movement of capital. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role in engineering the overarching remittance structure, overseeing the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to execute a compliant corporate proof of concept.

The primary objective of the pilot was to rigorously evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement technology could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations. Crucially, the test aimed to determine if this integration could be achieved without disrupting established corporate governance, compliance protocols, or internal accounting workflows. Building on the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to expand their testing phases to additional international payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate the broader potential for enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

The initiative by Hyundai’s regional units highlights a broader, fast-growing trend across global enterprises: corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as one of the most important and actively developing use cases for stablecoins. Financial technology firms and blockchain infrastructure providers are increasingly rolling out sophisticated products specifically designed to support international B2B payments, optimize enterprise liquidity management, and streamline intercompany settlement processes.

This enterprise shift is gaining significant momentum across the global financial sector. Earlier this year, treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a unified interface. By leveraging this capability, businesses can settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, bypassing the limitations of traditional banking hours and accessing liquidity around the clock while maintaining their existing treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Data from industry reports further underscores the accelerating shift toward digital asset settlement in commercial environments. A comprehensive report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This impressive growth was primarily propelled by surging commercial demand for real-time settlement capabilities, efficient treasury management tools, and resilient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including established banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys continue to point toward a structural transformation in enterprise payments. A June report from Paybis indicated that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses are already actively utilizing stablecoins for international commercial payments or have concrete plans to integrate them within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded over the course of 2025.

This expanding enterprise footprint aligns with the continued macro-level expansion of the digital asset economy. The total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed steadily to approximately $312.3 billion. This figure represents an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion market capitalization recorded a year prior, according to data compiled by DefiLlama. Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position, remaining the largest stablecoin in the global market by total valuation as traditional corporate giants increasingly explore its utility for operational liquidity.
