Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether Stablecoin on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has taken a significant step into the realm of blockchain-based enterprise finance after its United States and Mexican corporate units successfully completed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin.

The proof-of-concept transaction, which settled a $20,000 payment in approximately seven minutes, was executed on the Avalanche blockchain. The successful trial marks a notable exploration by a major multinational industrial corporation into how decentralized ledger technology and digital assets can streamline traditional corporate finance operations, improve liquidity management, and drastically reduce settlement times for international transactions.

According to details provided by Tether, the operational workflow saw Hyundai Motor America convert the allocated funds into USDT, securely transfer the stablecoin across the blockchain network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently convert the digital asset back into US dollars on the receiving end. The entire lifecycle of the transfer—including initiation, routing, settlement, and verification—was completed in roughly seven minutes.

This performance stands in sharp contrast to conventional cross-border bank transfers, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours to several days depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, correspondent banking networks, and compliance checks.

The operational architecture behind the pilot relied on specialized infrastructure and rigorous oversight. Tether reported that the test utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to handle the digital asset rails, while Hyundai Card played a central role by designing the overall remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the complex regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support a secure and legally sound proof of concept within a heavily regulated corporate environment.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to internal governance, compliance frameworks, or accounting protocols. Following the success of the initial test, the participating companies plan to expand their testing phase to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate the broader implications for enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

The initiative by Hyundai’s regional units highlights a broader, accelerating trend across the global financial and corporate landscape. Corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a critical focus area for stablecoin issuers and fintech infrastructure providers, with firms rolling out dedicated enterprise products specifically designed to support efficient cross-border payments, optimized liquidity management, and streamlined intercompany settlements.

This institutional push is increasingly visible across major software and payment ecosystems. In April, enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba announced a strategic partnership with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage digital stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions.

By leveraging the platform, businesses gained the ability to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, as well as access vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours, all while operating within their existing corporate workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from digital asset service providers further underscores the growing momentum of enterprise adoption. A comprehensive report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This impressive growth was primarily driven by surging corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, advanced treasury management tools, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys reinforce the narrative of steadily rising enterprise integration. A June report published by Paybis found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international business payments or actively plan to implement them within the upcoming 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This expanding corporate adoption coincides with robust growth in the broader digital asset economy. Data from DefiLlama indicates that the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing a growth of roughly 21.5% compared to $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Within this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as a primary instrument for both retail and institutional digital settlement transactions worldwide.
