Hyundai Motor Completes Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche Blockchain

Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate divisions have successfully completed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking a notable step forward in the adoption of blockchain technology for traditional corporate finance operations. The transaction, which settled a $20,000 payment, was executed on the Avalanche blockchain and completed the entire transfer and verification cycle in approximately seven minutes.

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the digital ledger to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into traditional US dollars upon arrival. In comparison, traditional cross-border bank transfers for similar corridors typically take anywhere from three to four hours or significantly longer depending on intermediary banking hours, weekend schedules, and legacy compliance clearance checks.

The successful proof-of-concept pilot utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to handle the digital asset movement. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a crucial role by designing the overall remittance structure and meticulously overseeing the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational frameworks necessary to support the pilot project.

The primary objective of the trial was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing enterprise treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to core corporate governance, compliance protocols, or standard accounting processes. Following the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to advance the initiative into its next phase, which will involve expanding testing to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as part of a broader evaluation of enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate treasury has rapidly emerged as a key focal point for stablecoin issuers and enterprise software providers alike. As global trade accelerates, financial technology firms are increasingly rolling out products specifically engineered to support frictionless cross-border payments, efficient liquidity management, and streamlined intercompany settlements.

This corporate push into digital assets is mirrored by broader software integrations across the financial industry. In April, major enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside conventional cash positions, settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access essential liquidity well outside of traditional banking hours while utilizing their existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Market data further underscores the surging demand for digital settlement rails among institutional users. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic growth was propelled by rising enterprise demand for real-time settlement capabilities, sophisticated treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period were traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Recent business surveys also point toward a broader structural shift in enterprise adoption patterns. A June Paybis report found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to implement them within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume observed throughout 2025.

This institutional momentum coincides with a period of steady expansion for the broader stablecoin market. According to data from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Within this expanding ecosystem, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as a primary instrument for both retail trading and growing enterprise treasury operations worldwide.
