Hyundai Motor Successfully Tests Cross-Border Treasury Settlement Using USDT on Avalanche Blockchain

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a landmark cross-border treasury transfer pilot utilizing Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking another significant milestone in the integration of blockchain technology into traditional corporate finance. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was conducted jointly by Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican operating units, showcasing how major multinational corporations are beginning to bypass legacy banking rails to streamline international financial operations.

According to details provided by stablecoin issuer Tether, the transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the digital asset across the Avalanche blockchain network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the stablecoin back into local fiat currency. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process was completed in approximately seven minutes. By comparison, traditional cross-border banking transfers typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and often significantly longer depending on intermediary correspondent banks, time zones, and weekend cut-off times.

The successful proof of concept was built on a collaborative framework involving multiple specialized entities. Tether noted that the pilot leveraged Axiym’s settlement infrastructure to execute the digital transfer. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a crucial role by designing the overall remittance structure and overseeing the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support a live corporate treasury test of this nature.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without forcing companies to overhaul their established internal governance, regulatory compliance, or accounting workflows. Following the positive results of this initial test, the participating companies plan to expand their testing phase. Future iterations of the project will evaluate additional payment corridors and explore local currency settlements as enterprises continue to study and refine broader treasury management workflows in search of greater efficiency.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury functions have rapidly evolved into one of the most vital frontiers for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Over the past few years, financial technology firms and blockchain companies have increasingly rolled out enterprise-grade products specifically designed to support cross-border payments, optimize corporate liquidity management, and facilitate smoother intercompany settlements across global subsidiaries.

This institutional momentum has been underscored by several major developments across the enterprise software sector. Earlier this year in April, enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba announced a strategic partnership with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This integration was designed to empower corporate treasury teams to manage digital stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions. Furthermore, it allows companies to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany transactions in near-real time, while providing access to vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours, all while maintaining their existing treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from the broader financial sector further highlights this expanding trend. A comprehensive Bitso Business report published earlier this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its enterprise platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was primarily driven by accelerating commercial demand for real-time settlement solutions, efficient treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity mechanisms. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of regulated financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys and market research reinforce the narrative of rising enterprise adoption. A June report published by Paybis indicated that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international business payments or have concrete plans to implement them within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from management consultancy McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded throughout 2025.

This sustained corporate push coincides with a period of robust overall expansion for the global stablecoin market. Market data from DefiLlama indicates that the total market capitalization of all stablecoins has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion. This figure represents an upward movement of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion market capitalization recorded exactly a year earlier, with Tether’s USDT consistently maintaining its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market valuation. As multinational enterprises like Hyundai Motor continue to test and validate these decentralized settlement systems, the boundary between traditional corporate treasury management and blockchain-powered finance continues to blur.
